New Initiative to Reduce Medicare Regulations

August 4, 2017 LeadingAge DC Executive Director

Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-OH), the chairman of the U.S. House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee announced a new initiative called the “Provider Statutory & Regulatory Relief Initiative,” to reduce regulations and mandates for Medicare beneficiaries.

The Subcommittee will work with providers to identify opportunities to reduce regulatory and legislative burdens on Medicare providers, as well as improving the efficiency and quality of Medicare programs for seniors and the disabled.

This is an opportunity for LeadingAge members including home health, SNF and hospice providers to give feedback to the Subcommittee about the challenges they face, and work to deliver the regulatory relief they need to put patients, not paperwork, first.

The Initiative will have three stages:

  1. REQUEST FEEDBACK FROM STAKEHOLDERS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE POLICIES THAT IMPROVE HEALTH CARE – AND THE POLICIES THAT STAND IN THE WAY;
  2. HOST ROUNDTABLES WITH STAKEHOLDERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO CONTINUE THE CONVERSATIONS AND IDENTIFY SOLUTIONS; AND
  3. TAKE CONGRESSIONAL ACTION BASED ON FEEDBACK FROM STAKEHOLDERS.

As the first step, the Committee is seeking feedback on the following:

  1. HOW CONGRESS CAN DELIVER STATUTORY RELIEF FROM THE MANDATES ESTABLISHED IN LAW THROUGH OUR LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITY.
  2. HOW CONGRESS CAN WORK WITH HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES SECRETARY TOM PRICE, M.D., AND CENTERS FOR MEDICARE & MEDICAID SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR SEEMA VERMA TO DELIVER REGULATORY RELIEF THROUGH ADMINISTRATIVE ACTION.

LeadingAge encourages its members to provide feedback to the initiative on ways the Medicare program can be made be made more efficient and provide better quality for patients and providers.

You can submit your comments to the subcommittee using this form and send it to WMProviderFeedback@mail.house.gov by August 25, 2017. LeadingAge will be submitting comments.
