The District of Columbia has embarked on a movement to protect the rights of LGBTQ seniors and seniors with HIV through its the Care for LGBTQ Seniors and Seniors with HIV Amendment Act of 2020 , which the Office of Human Rights (OHR) enforces. While this legislation includes a number of mandates, such as training and policy changes, other tools such as the Long Term Care Equality Index provide a voluntary and complementary approach to Promoting Equitable and Inclusive Care for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Older Adults in Residential Long-Term Care and Senior Housing.
